Moving Cross Country

Cross Country Moving

Moving cross country can be one of the most exciting moments in your life, if you can look beyond the hassles that sometimes come with. That’s just a little bit easier to do when you are the youngest of the family. When I was six, my parents moved us all across the country, from New Jersey to Colorado. For someone just starting middle school, moving an entire life over a thousand miles away was a hard concept to grasp, nevertheless I was thrilled, and I looked forward to getting a large new bedroom all to myself. I remember how excited my parents were despite all the work, loading up the trucks and the cargo trailer with all of our prized possessions. Our home, once brimming with shelves of books, tables of coffee mugs, large chairs with ruffled pillows and velvety throws, quickly became empty, and our vehicles became stuffed with the weight of nearly everything we owned.

Soon we waved goodbye to our old front yard and started the long drive across the country to our brand new home. For two entire days, the storm clouds covered the large open sky and puddled the long farmland roads. It rained so continuously, I remember crying to my mother and how worried I was for ‘Molly Sue’ and the rest of my horse dolls as they stuck it out in the trailer. When we finally reached our destination tucked in the mountains, the first thing I did was run to the back of the truck to make sure they were all just as I had left them. I could love my new home even more knowing everything my six-year-old hands held dear was safe and sound.

Though a new cross-country adventure can be a great experience for any age, it’s never easy to make a move like that if you aren’t prepared. Renting a cargo trailer was one of the best decisions my parents made for our move. It saved us the high cost of professional movers, and with ‘all hands on deck’ (as my father often liked to say) we were able to load up all of our furniture and boxes in just a few hours. The aluminum trailer we rented was shiny and surprisingly lightweight, making the drive over the mountains roads easygoing; despite how worried my father was about the heavy load we were carrying. Using an enclosed cargo trailer for the move, my family was able to save money, and it helped to make the long and stormy drive to our new home even more enjoyable and worry free!
